How K9PN works

What you can expect when you send a request.

We refer, we do not sell

K9PN does not breed, sell or train dogs. We pass your request to an experienced professional who serves your area.

You get the right questions

Our guides list what to ask any seller or trainer: health tests, contracts, training and aftercare.

Free, no obligation

It costs nothing to send a request, and you decide whether to work with whoever contacts you.

How it works

From request to trainer in three steps

K9PN is a referral service. We do not train dogs. Trainers set their own prices and programs.

1. Tell us what you need

Share your dog’s age and breed, what you want help with, and your full postcode. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing.

2. We match you with a trainer

K9PN is a referral service. Based on what you need and where you live, we refer your request to a professional trainer who covers your area.

3. The trainer gets in touch

The trainer contacts you to talk through your goals, pricing and scheduling. You decide whether it is a fit.

Labrador origin

The breed comes from Newfoundland, where it helped fishermen retrieve nets and fish. British nobles developed it as a gundog in the 1800s, and the Kennel Club recognised it in 1903.

Temperament and family life

A well-bred, well-socialised Labrador is friendly, eager and social. Young dogs are boisterous and need training. Labradors are not guard dogs.

Exercise, grooming and living in the UK

  • Exercise. Long daily walks and play.
  • Weight. Measure food and limit treats.
  • Training. Start early to manage jumping and mouthing.
  • Children. Often great, but exuberant, so supervise.

Health: what to ask for

Labradors are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, obesity, exercise-induced collapse (EIC), progressive retinal atrophy, centronuclear myopathy and ear infections. Ask for BVA/Kennel Club hip and elbow scores, eye test results and DNA test results for both parents.

Is a Labrador Retriever right for you?

It may suit you if

  • You want an outgoing family dog
  • You can give lots of daily exercise
  • You will manage its weight
  • You will buy from a health-tested line
  • You have time to train a boisterous puppy

Think twice if

  • You want a guard dog
  • You are away for long hours
  • You cannot manage its food intake
  • You want a calm puppy
  • You are buying from an advert with no parents to see

What to ask a breeder

  • Can I meet both parents?
  • Hip, elbow, eye and DNA results for both parents?
  • Are they show or working lines?
  • What does the contract and health guarantee say?
  • What support do you offer after purchase?

How K9PN matches you with a professional

K9PN is not a marketplace and we do not sell dogs. We refer people to experienced, independent professionals, and we look at openness about the dogs and their parents, health testing, written contracts, and honest aftercare. We are still building our UK network, so put your full postcode in the form and we will tell you if we can match you.

Please note

This page is general information, not veterinary, legal or financial advice. Dog law differs between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and prices change, so check current details with the seller, your vet and the official sources linked.

Common questions

Are Labradors good family dogs?

Yes. They are friendly, tolerant and trainable, but exuberant, so supervise around small children.

How much exercise does a Labrador need?

A lot: typically an hour or more a day for an adult, plus mental work.

Do Labradors shed?

Yes. The short double coat sheds year-round.

How much do Labrador puppies cost?

Prices vary widely with the breeder and health testing. See the cost guide.

Show or working Labrador?

Working lines are often more driven and suit active owners. Show lines are often calmer. Ask the breeder.

Does K9PN sell or train protection dogs?

No. K9PN is a referral service and does not breed, sell or train dogs. We pass your request to a professional who covers your area, if we can match you. It costs nothing to send a request. We are still building our UK network.
