Cavapoo key facts
Cavapoo origin
The Cavapoo (also called Cavoodle in Australia) is a crossbreed of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. It is not a recognised breed with a Kennel Club standard, so size, coat and health vary.
Temperament and family life
Cavapoos are usually gentle, affectionate and eager to be close to people. They can be sensitive and may struggle if left alone.
Exercise, grooming and living in the UK
- Exercise. Daily walks and play, not extreme exercise.
- Grooming. Regular brushing and professional grooming.
- Time alone. Train gradually; avoid long hours alone.
- Children. Often gentle, with supervision.
Health: what to ask for
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are prone to mitral valve disease (MVD), an inherited heart condition, and to syringomyelia, a painful neurological condition, and to eye and ear problems. Poodles can carry conditions such as PRA and patella problems. Ask for heart clearance of the parent Cavalier from a specialist (including age at testing), MRI or other screening for syringomyelia where available, eye and DNA test results for both parents, and the health history of the line. Take your vet's advice.

It may suit you if
- You want a small, affectionate companion
- You are home most of the day
- You can afford grooming and vet care
- You will buy from a transparent, health-focused breeder
- You accept coat and size will vary
Think twice if
- You are away for long hours

- You cannot afford vet care
- You expect a guaranteed coat or size
What to ask a breeder
- What heart screening has the Cavalier parent had, and at what age?
- What screening for syringomyelia has been done?
- Can I meet both parents?
- What eye and DNA results are there for both parents?
- What does the contract and guarantee say?

How K9PN matches you with a professional
K9PN is not a marketplace and we do not sell dogs. We refer people to experienced, independent professionals, and we look at openness about the dogs and their parents, health testing, written contracts, and honest aftercare. We are still building our UK network, so put your full postcode in the form and we will tell you if we can match you.
Please note
This page is general information, not veterinary, legal or financial advice. Dog law differs between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and prices change, so check current details with the seller, your vet and the official sources linked.
Common questions
Are Cavapoos healthy?
They can inherit serious conditions from the Cavalier side, especially heart and spine disease. Health-tested parents reduce but do not remove the risk.
How big do Cavapoos get?
They are small, roughly 5 to 12 kg, depending on the Poodle parent.
How much do Cavapoo puppies cost?
Prices vary widely and are often high. Pay for health testing, not a label.
Do Cavapoos shed?
Some shed less than other breeds, but coats vary.
Are Cavapoos good with children?
Often, with supervision.
Does K9PN sell or train protection dogs?
No. K9PN is a referral service and does not breed, sell or train dogs. We pass your request to a professional who covers your area, if we can match you. It costs nothing to send a request. We are still building our UK network.
