Cockapoo puppies for sale in the UK: what to know before you buy

The Cockapoo, a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle cross, is one of the UK’s most searched-for puppies. It is friendly and bright, but because it is a cross, coats, size and health vary a lot, and demand has attracted careless breeders. K9PN does not sell dogs. This guide explains what to expect and how to buy responsibly.

  • Free to request, takes about two minutes
  • Health-tested Cockapoo parents
  • K9PN refers you and does not sell dogs

Key takeaways
  • A popular Cocker Spaniel and Poodle cross; coat, size and temperament vary.
  • Claims of "non-shedding" or "hypoallergenic" are unreliable.
  • Pay for health-tested parents, not a trendy name, and see the puppy with its mother.

How it works

From request to trainer in three steps

K9PN is a referral service. We do not train dogs. Trainers set their own prices and programs.

1. Tell us what you need

Share your dog’s age and breed, what you want help with, and your full postcode. It takes about two minutes and costs nothing.

2. We match you with a trainer

K9PN is a referral service. Based on what you need and where you live, we refer your request to a professional trainer who covers your area.

3. The trainer gets in touch

The trainer contacts you to talk through your goals, pricing and scheduling. You decide whether it is a fit.

Cockapoo origin

The Cockapoo is a crossbreed, first bred in the United States in the 20th century and now hugely popular in the UK. As a cross, it is not a recognised breed with a Kennel Club standard, so results vary between litters.

Temperament and family life

Most are friendly, affectionate and eager, but they can be sensitive and anxious if left alone. Energy and temperament follow the parents, so meet both if you can.

Exercise, grooming and living in the UK

  • Exercise. Daily walks and play.
  • Grooming. Regular brushing and clipping, which can be costly.
  • Time alone. Train gradually to be left; do not leave long hours.
  • Allergies. Spend time with the dog first.

Health: what to ask for

Inherited conditions in the parent breeds can occur, including progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), familial nephropathy in Cocker Spaniels, hip dysplasia, ear infections and patella problems. Ask for health test and DNA results for both parents (eyes, hips, relevant DNA tests) and avoid breeders who simply charge a premium for the name.

Is a Cockapoo right for you?

It may suit you if

  • You want a friendly, trainable family dog
  • You are home for much of the day
  • You can afford grooming
  • You will buy from a health-testing breeder
  • You accept coat and size will vary

Think twice if

  • You need a guaranteed non-shedding dog
  • You are away for long hours
  • You are buying from an advert with no parents to see
  • You cannot afford grooming
  • You expect a standard size or coat

What to ask a breeder

  • What are the parents' breeds, sizes and health clearances?
  • Can I meet both parents?
  • What coat and size should I expect?
  • What does the contract say?
  • What support do you offer after purchase?

How K9PN matches you with a professional

K9PN is not a marketplace and we do not sell dogs. We refer people to experienced, independent professionals, and we look at openness about the dogs and their parents, health testing, written contracts, and honest aftercare. We are still building our UK network, so put your full postcode in the form and we will tell you if we can match you.

Please note

This page is general information, not veterinary, legal or financial advice. Dog law differs between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and prices change, so check current details with the seller, your vet and the official sources linked.

Common questions

Are Cockapoos hypoallergenic?

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. Some coats shed less, but it depends on the person and the dog.

How big do Cockapoos get?

It depends on the Poodle parent: toy, miniature or standard. Ask the breeder about the parents' sizes.

How much do Cockapoo puppies cost?

Prices vary widely and are often high for the name. Pay for health testing and good breeding, not a label.

Do Cockapoos suffer separation anxiety?

Many do if left too long. Train gradually and avoid long hours alone.

Is a Cockapoo a good first dog?

It can be, with a responsible breeder and commitment to training and grooming.

Does K9PN sell or train protection dogs?

No. K9PN is a referral service and does not breed, sell or train dogs. We pass your request to a professional who covers your area, if we can match you. It costs nothing to send a request. We are still building our UK network.
